Accelerated Five-Year (4+1) Bachelor Degree/Master of Science in Management Program

Return to Degree Programs Return to: Degree Programs

Mount Ida College is pleased to offer a five-year (4+1) BS/MSM (Master of Science in Management) program. This means that students may complete a master’s degree with only one additional year at Mount Ida College.

Students in the program can take up to four (4) graduate-level courses (12 credits) (2 each semester) in their senior year* if their undergraduate degree requirements allow for these courses to count as open electives toward fulfillment of undergraduate degree requirements. The courses also count toward the Master of Science in Management (MSM) degree requirements. A minimum of eight (8) additional courses (24 credits) at the graduate level (after completion of the undergraduate requirements) are required for the master’s degree. By taking two courses each semester (including summer), students can complete the MSM degree within a year.

*International students can take up to two (2) graduate-level courses in their senior year (1 each semester) in order to maintain full-time student status in their fifth year.

Students may apply for admission to this accelerated program in their junior year if they have at least a 3.0 CGPA.

To be considered for admission, a student must submit the following materials to the Admissions Office at Mount Ida College:

  • Completed graduate program online application
  • Two letters of recommendation, including one from a faculty member in the student’s undergraduate major who is familiar with the student’s academic abilities
  • Resume, with internship(s) and work experience described in full
  • Personal statement describing how graduate study will further develop the student’s professional interests
  • Undergraduate transcript

All materials must be submitted to the Admissions Office by March 15. Students will be notified of the admission decision by the end of March, prior to registration for the next fall semester.

Please note:

  • A student accepted into the BS/MSM program will be considered a bachelor’s degree student in the fourth year, moving into graduate student status after he/she has received the BS degree.
  • To be eligible to enroll in the 4+1 graduate program, students must have senior standing status and a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Senior standing is defined as having 30 credits or less remaining to complete the requirements of their undergraduate program.
  • Students can apply and be accepted into the graduate program once they have earned 60 credits or more, but they are not eligible to formally matriculate into the graduate program and take graduate level courses until they meet senior standing criteria.
  • Students are expected to achieve a grade of B or better in each of the MSM courses they take in their senior year.
  • Any student registering for courses without receiving a formal acceptance to a degree program is considered a non-degree student. Students are allowed to take no more than 2 courses (6 credits) in the graduate program as a non-degree student on a space-available basis. Non-degree students must be of senior standing, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and are required to receive approval from the Dean of Graduate Studies before registration in any graduate courses.
  • All non-degree students can take up to two courses on a space-available basis without being formally accepted into the graduate program.  Graduate courses can be taken to fulfill open elective requirements.
  • Undergraduate students cannot take a third graduate course without formal matriculation into the graduate program.  To ensure a smooth transition from non-matriculated to matriculated status, students should complete their formal 4+1 application before completion of their second course as a non-matriculated student.
  • The number of MSM credits a student can take in his/her senior year may be less than 12, based on the bachelor’s degree program requirements, and/or visa requirements for international students.
  • Financial aid, housing eligibility and other undergraduate services do not carry into the graduate student status of the program.

Minimum Grade Requirement

A minimum grade of C is required in all graduate courses.
