AR 433 - History of Modern and Contemporary Art

S 3 credits This course focuses on modern and contemporary artists and their achievements in painting, sculpture, architecture, photography and the graphic arts. Consideration is taken of how artists and their art impact society and the impact of historical, scientific, psychological and societal events on the forming of the artist and their art. The origins, developments and unique characteristics of twentieth century and contemporary art will be reviewed. The role of trends in media and technique which evolved with the advancement of the industrial and technological age will be examined along with the impact of the individual artist on the formation of style.
